A Home That Fits Every Need
When you choose a Hire A Hut cabin, you’re investing in premium quality, expertly crafted, and stylish living or workspace solutions. Whether you’re looking to rent or buy, and whether you choose one of our pre-designed layouts or go for a custom build, you can expect an efficient and hassle-free delivery process. Here’s what to expect from the moment you place your order to the final placement of your new cabin.
1. Initial Inquiry and Placing Your Order
Once you’ve explored our range of cabins and decided on the perfect fit for your needs, it’s time to contact our team. If you opt for a custom-built cabin, we’ll work with you to create a design that meets your specific requirements. Custom builds typically take around 4 weeks for a basic 6m x 2.7m open-plan cabin, and about 6 weeks for self-contained huts, depending on the complexity and size. When purchasing a custom-built cabin, the process is as follows: • We’ll confirm the layout and pricing. • After a deposit is made, your spot in the production line is secured. • We’ll keep you updated with progress photos during manufacturing. • Once nearing completion, we’ll lock in a delivery date, with the final payment due before the cabin leaves our yard. For hiring, rather than buying, our ready-to-go stock cabins can be delivered within just a few days depending on availability. Please note that rental huts are offered from our available stock only, generally with no customisation options.
2. Site Preparation
Before your cabin arrives, certain site conditions are required for a smooth delivery: • Access: Your site must have an accessway of at least 3.5 meters wide and 3.5 meters high to accommodate delivery equipment, though an optimal clearance of 4 meters wide by 4 meters high is preferred. • Level Surface: The site should be relatively level, with no more than a 300mm drop from one end to the other. Additionally, there should be at least 2 meters of space around the cabin for manoeuvring during installation. If your site has tricky terrain or you’re unsure about meeting these conditions, our team is happy to discuss solutions. We can use specialised equipment to adapt to more challenging sites if necessary.
3. Delivery Area and Costs
Hire A Hut delivers across the North Island for cabin purchases, with delivery costs based on distance and site complexity. For local deliveries within Whangarei, expect costs to range between $500 and $750. For areas beyond Whangarei, we’ll provide an estimate based on your location. Please note that rental cabins are currently available for delivery only within Northland and Auckland.
4. The Delivery Process
Our delivery contractor uses specialised equipment to make sure your cabin reaches its destination in perfect condition. Most of our cabins are delivered using a 4WD ute and trailer system, which is equipped with winches, pulleys and a wheel system if needed. These tools, if needed, allows us to get to almost any site that’s accessible by vehicle. For locations where vehicle access is limited, we may need to use a Hi Ab. This crane-like equipment can lift your cabin over fences and other obstacles, making difficult sites more accessible.
5. Final Placement and Setup
Once your cabin has arrived on-site, our team positions and places it according to your instructions. With the use of our equipment, we make sure your cabin is perfectly positioned and stable. From there, all that’s left to do is for you to move in and enjoy your new space, whether it’s a chill backyard retreat, a home office to boost productivity, or additional accommodation for family and friends.
6. Power, Water, and Waste
For cabins with bathroom or kitchenette options, you'll need to consider how power, water, and waste management work: • Power: All huts are wired by licensed electricians and come with an electrical certificate of compliance. Each cabin includes a 20-meter, 16 Amp electrical lead, ideal for plugging into a caravan outlet. We also provide a 10 Amp adapter that plugs into a standard household power point. • Water: Water connections are only necessary for huts with kitchenettes or bathrooms. • Waste: For cabins requiring wastewater solutions, we can discuss available options and help you choose the best system.
