Josh has been building cabins since 2016. Chantelle brings sales experience and an eye for systems from banking and insurance. Together, they built Hire a Hut from the ground up, because they believed Kiwis deserved better than what was on the market.

Meet our team

Josh began building cabins in 2016, supplying them wholesale to rental companies around Northland. Chantelle brought sales experience from the banking and insurance industries, along with an eye for systems and processes. Together, they saw an opportunity to offer a better product, with a lot more value, for the same price.

In 2020, Josh and Chantelle began selling and hiring cabins directly to customers, bringing every part of the process in house. Unlike many cabin companies who outsource production, we manufacture our cabins right here in Whangarei, employing local tradespeople and sourcing materials from local businesses. It’s what makes Hire a Hut unique: quality and service stay in our hands, from the first cut of timber to final handover.

Every Hire a Hut cabin is built to exceed Healthy Homes insulation standards, using the same heat loss calculation as a new build, and carefully finished inside and out. Whether you’re after a sleepout, granny flat, home office, Airbnb hut, or just more room for family, our cabins are built to make life easier.

We also offer a range of ways to access a cabin, from quality cabin rentals to WINZ-approved cabins for those who need it. Not everyone wants to buy outright, so we keep the options flexible.
